Wachau
(1390 ha, white wine 89%, red wine 11%)
Are the Hills around the Danube from Melk to Krems. This part of the Danube river has been declared a World Heritage, you're able to see the beauty the best, if you take a boot trip. In spring it is literally a river flowing through a apricot bloom sea and in harvest the hillsides are colored red from the wine leaves.
The soil of the terraces on the steep slopes is mainly weathered prehistoric rock and beside the riverbed there is sand and loess. On them are commonly Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau and Zweigelt grown.
